Irish authorities are seeking a warrant to extradite the primary suspect in the murder of Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old mother from New York. Carney was found beaten and suffocated in her home in Killarney on July 7, 2026, by her teenage daughter. Investigators believe her partner, a Jordanian national who was seeking asylum in Ireland, is responsible for her death. He reportedly fled to Istanbul and then to Jordan, where he was detained.
Authorities have submitted a file to Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommending murder charges. The DPP is currently reviewing the evidence to determine if formal charges will be filed. If charges are approved, Irish officials may face challenges in extraditing the suspect due to the lack of a formal extradition treaty with Jordan.
An Garda Síochána, Ireland's national police force, stated that the investigation is ongoing and a file has been submitted to the DPP. Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan indicated that all diplomatic and judicial channels would be explored to ensure justice is served. The suspect had previously arrived in the UK before moving to County Kerry, where he lived in state-run accommodation for asylum seekers and worked in hospitality and construction. He had become romantically involved with Carney, who had been assisting him with securing U.S. residency.
