Gregg Phillips, known for his claims of election fraud, stated he is still employed in the Trump administration despite being removed from his role overseeing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in June. Phillips indicated on Truth Social that he has been part of the administration since last year and plans to leave soon to 'rejoin the fight.'
The specifics of his current role remain unclear, as he was seen recently at a Department of Justice building with Ed Martin, a former US pardon attorney. Phillips wrote on Truth Social about his visit, stating, 'Haters are gonna hate this.'
FEMA confirmed that Phillips is on administrative leave, which allows him to receive full pay and benefits. A FEMA spokesperson previously stated that Phillips was taking leave for personal reasons, but did not clarify if he is still employed by the agency.
Phillips has been associated with various unfounded claims of voter fraud, including a 2016 assertion that over 3 million noncitizens voted in the presidential election. His involvement with True the Vote, which promoted the debunked film '2000 Mules,' has also drawn scrutiny. A 2022 investigation revealed that True the Vote raised significant funds while failing to provide evidence of election fraud.
Phillips was appointed to lead FEMA’s Office of Response and Recovery in December, despite lacking experience in emergency response. Following his departure, FEMA acknowledged his contributions to the agency. Sources at FEMA indicated that Phillips has not been present at the headquarters since June.
Recently, Phillips discussed his plans to 'rejoin the fight' against what he perceives as illegal voting practices, referencing work done with True the Vote. However, Catherine Engelbrecht, founder of True the Vote, clarified that Phillips is not currently part of their team but may assist in future projects.
True the Vote is expected to release a new documentary titled 'Trapped,' which will again allege systemic voter fraud ahead of the midterm elections.
