Cruz pointed out that they did not know each other despite being at the university for two years. Thomas described Alito as a 'funny guy' and 'brilliant,' mentioning their differing backgrounds, with Alito being a Princeton graduate.</p><p>Thomas recalled asking Alito why they were not friends, to which Alito responded, 'Clarence, you were scary.' Thomas explained that his choice of attire, which included bib overalls and combat boots, may have contributed to this perception. He expressed relief that smartphones were not prevalent at the time to capture those moments.</p><p>In a separate appearance on 'The Will Cain Show,' Cruz characterized Thomas as a 'left-wing radical' during his college years before he shifted towards conservatism, stating that Thomas has become an extraordinary thinker who has overcome significant adversity to achieve his position in American law.</p>
