A Dutch drug addiction and mental health institute issued a warning on August 28, 2026, regarding potentially lethal ecstasy pills shaped like the head of U.S. President Donald Trump. The Trimbos Institute reported that several of these pills have been submitted to a network of drug testing centers. The institute advised users to avoid these pills, stating, "Absolutely do not use these pills."
The pills feature a depiction of Trump's head on one side and are stamped with "NL" and "Trump" on the other side. One pill is green, while another is yellow. The institute released a "Red Alert" on its website and social media, indicating that the pills contain a high concentration of PMMA (para-methoxymethamfetamine), which is similar to MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy.
PMMA has a slower onset than MDMA, which may lead users to consume more, increasing the risk of overdose. The institute noted that use of these pills could result in overheating and potentially fatal consequences. Spokesperson Anniek Groothuis stated that there have been no reported cases of serious illness or fatalities linked to the drug, adding, "We do not know of any victims where PMMA was found in their blood."
While producing, selling, and using ecstasy is illegal in the Netherlands, the drug is commonly used, especially at clubs and music festivals. A government report from 2024 indicated that approximately 550,000 people used ecstasy in a year.
