A police operation is underway in Aarau, Switzerland, following a shooting at a rave that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old woman and injuries to five others. The incident occurred at a techno rave held at a horse racing track, approximately 46 kilometers west of Zurich. Police reported that the woman died at the scene, while the injured individuals, four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27, are receiving treatment in the hospital for injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Authorities have not yet identified the shooter or determined the motives behind the attack. Local media indicated that police were alerted to the shooting at around 02:30 local time. A DJ scheduled to perform until the event's conclusion at 02:00 stated that the shooting took place immediately after their set. Another performer, DJ Tekibo, expressed his grief on Instagram, noting the loss of a friend in the incident.
Olivier Grein, from Agency Events AG, the event's organizer, stated that the company was shaken and committed to supporting the police investigation. The event had anticipated an attendance of up to 3,500 people. Police have cordoned off the area surrounding the racing track, swimming pool, and sports field, advising the public to stay away. A significant police presence has been established beyond Aarau as a precaution, with armed officers seen up to 30 kilometers away from the shooting site.
Reports from German media indicate that police in Germany are assisting Swiss authorities in the ongoing manhunt. Images from the scene early Sunday depicted a heavy police presence, including an armored vehicle and officers in riot gear. Additionally, the regional disaster response unit and a Swiss Army helicopter have been deployed to survey the area. Switzerland has a high rate of gun ownership compared to other European countries, but violent shootings are infrequent, and stricter controls have been implemented in recent years.
