The FBI conducted a nationwide operation named Operation Spring Cleaning, which resulted in 615 criminal indictments and the seizure of hundreds of weapons and drugs. This three-month operation targeted violent offenders, drug traffickers, armed felons, and fugitives, according to a statement from the Justice Department released on June 1, 2026. The operation involved federal and local agencies and aimed to address gang-related threats as authorities anticipate an increase in violent and property crimes during the summer months.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated that Operation Spring Cleaning is part of the FBI's ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime across the country. The operation led to 1,139 arrests, 984 firearm seizures, and included 1,474 joint operations and 586 search warrants. Seized items included 509 kilograms of cocaine, 48 kilograms of fentanyl, 698 pounds of methamphetamine, and various other drugs.
The operation is part of the Justice Department's broader initiative, Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat illegal immigration and dismantle drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations. Operations were conducted in cities including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, and Sacramento. In Dallas alone, authorities seized $20,000 worth of jewelry and a Mercedes-Benz in addition to drugs and firearms. The announcement followed the FBI's recent Operation Soteria Shield, which resulted in over 276 arrests related to child exploitation.
