Vanilla Ice has reaffirmed his commitment to perform at the Freedom 250's Great American State Fair, scheduled for June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This event is part of the celebrations for the nation's 250th anniversary and is organized by Freedom 250, a nonprofit associated with President Donald Trump and the White House Task Force 250. Following the announcement of the lineup on May 29, several artists, including Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, have withdrawn from the event due to backlash.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, stated he is "100%" committed to performing, emphasizing that criticism has only strengthened his resolve. He expressed pride in being invited to celebrate the country’s anniversary and criticized the politicization of the event, stating, "It's sad that people take everything so serious. You're overlooking that it's the birthday of our country. It's not about the politics."
Vanilla Ice noted that he does not engage with politics and does not vote, instead focusing on enjoying life. He mentioned that he respects the decisions of artists who withdrew but believes it is unfair for them to face scrutiny for their choices. He called for unity and love among people, stating that the country should come together to celebrate its history rather than allowing politics to divide them.
Despite the artist exodus, the Great American State Fair has not been canceled, and Trump is expected to headline the opening ceremony. Vanilla Ice has communicated with some of the artists who withdrew, expressing disappointment over the situation and urging for a more positive atmosphere leading up to the celebrations.
