57-Year-Old Man Found Dead on Subway Tracks in Brooklyn

<p>A 57-year-old man was killed in Brooklyn on Monday evening after his bag became trapped in closing subway doors, dragging him beneath the train.</p><p>Yaw Boahene was found "unconscious and unresponsive" on the tracks of a northbound A train at the Utica Avenue station in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood shortly after 6 p.m., according to the New York Police Department.</p><p>Paramedics pronounced Boahene dead at the scene. An investigation has been launched into the cause of his death.</p><p>Boahene, of Brooklyn, was exiting a train at around 6 p.m. when his shopping bag got stuck in the doors, The New York Times reported.</p><p>Incidents involving commuters being caught and dragged by subway trains are rare, but they do occur.</p><p>In October 2022, Joseph Ancona, 20, was killed in the Columbus Circle station when his bag was caught in the door, dragging him onto the tracks before he was fatally struck by the train, FOX 5 New York reported at the time.</p><p>Months earlier, 37-year-old Marcus Bryant was at a station in Brooklyn, where he got caught between a Q train and the platform. He was killed after falling onto the tracks.</p><p>In 2019, Vicente Alatorre, 39, died after he was dragged into a tunnel by a train at Grand Central Station.</p><p>Authorities initially believed Alatorre's clothing or a bag had become caught in the train doors, but later said that was not the case, The Times reported.</p>
