A pair of premature twin girls are receiving treatment at separate hospitals in Boston while their parents attempt to reunite them before a potential nurses' strike. Mike and Kelsey Kennedy's daughters, Juliette and Kendall, were born at 24 weeks' gestation on August 31 and have faced serious health challenges since their birth. Juliette was initially admitted to the NICU at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, while Kendall was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital for treatment of spina bifida. Juliette was later transferred to Boston Children’s for heart surgery before returning to Brigham. Both girls remain in stable but critical condition as their parents manage the stress of being at both hospitals while caring for their two other children at home.
Mike Kennedy expressed concerns about the looming strike of approximately 4,000 nurses at Brigham, which is set to begin next week unless an agreement is reached. He stated that the uncertainty surrounding the nurses' availability adds to their stress, as they are unsure about the qualifications of the staff who may be providing care during the strike. The couple hopes to have their daughters reunited at the same hospital, believing it would aid in their recovery. Kelsey Kennedy was able to hold each of her daughters for the first time this week. Mike noted that a recent surgery on Kendall's spina bifida showed promising results, and the family remains hopeful for their daughters' continued healing.
