Rapper Soulja Boy has indicated a possible run for president in 2028, stating, “the future starts with a conversation.”

As the midterm elections continue, attention is shifting to potential candidates for the 2028 presidential election. Current frontrunners on the Republican side include Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. For the Democratic Party, early names mentioned are Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Soulja Boy’s announcement suggests a more unconventional candidate pool. In an Instagram post, he outlined four key focus areas for his potential campaign: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and artificial intelligence.

The post stated, “A new chapter. A bigger version. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.”

Soulja Boy did not specify which political party he would represent or make an official bid for the presidency. He would not be the first rapper to enter the political arena, as Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, ran for president in 2020.

Additionally, Soulja Boy performed at President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities during a crypto inauguration ball, which was not an official event and did not include Trump’s attendance.

In his post, Soulja Boy expressed, “From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible. Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.”
