Dan Levy expressed his disapproval of Shane Gillis' monologue on 'Saturday Night Live' regarding women's gym attire. In an Instagram Reel shared on Sunday, Levy stated, "Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There’s a difference there." He highlighted that he has observed more men's nipples at the gym than women showing their bodies and noted his disbelief that such comments could be made on live television.
Levy emphasized the need for more men to oppose misogynistic behavior, stating, "It’s complacency that has created the environment with which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a conversation opposed to a crime. Men need to be defending women more." He added, "This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue. Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects. They are not objects. They are superior human beings to men."
Levy concluded his remarks with a strong statement, saying, "I’m sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet, but f—k."
Several celebrities commented in support of Levy's views, including Hannah Einbinder, Elizabeth Banks, and Flavor Flav.
During the episode, Gillis faced backlash for his comments about female gymgoers, stating, "I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t realize women just dressed like whores now," which elicited mixed reactions from the audience. He further described women's gymwear in a derogatory manner, prompting criticism.
At the end of the show, Gillis issued an apology, but it was not related to his monologue; he apologized for accidentally using profanity during a sketch. He concluded the show by thanking the audience.
