President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that he could meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his trip to Asia next month.

The president spoke briefly to reporters Monday evening while en route to Joint Base Andrews for a campaign stop in Youngstown, Ohio.

“I may. I may. That would be exciting, but I get along with him,” Trump stated when asked about a potential meeting with Kim.

In August, Trump also mentioned his intention to meet with the North Korean leader before the end of the year.

Trump is scheduled to visit the Philippines following the 2026 midterm elections for the 2026 Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.

During his first term, Trump and Kim met three times to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The first meeting occurred during a summit in Singapore in 2018, which was Kim’s first meeting with an American president.

The second and third meetings took place in 2019, first in Vietnam and then in the Demilitarized Zone during a trip Trump made to South Korea. This trip marked the first time a sitting American president visited North Korean territory.

Recently, Trump has indicated that he has reopened communications with Kim in an effort to further the denuclearization objectives established during his first term.
