I was with President Clinton yesterday and the day before on my birthday and we were talking about that and I paraphrased the great Toby Keith, ‘We’re not going to let that old man in,’" Jones said.

Jones has been the general manager since purchasing the team in February 1989, during which the Cowboys have won three Super Bowl championships. He recently gave a tour of his Texas mansion, showcasing his three Super Bowl trophies and championship rings.

In his library, Jones displayed photographs with former Presidents Donald Trump and George W. Bush. He expressed concern about the Cowboys' current performance, particularly the defense, which has undergone significant changes.

"Well, let’s say this, we changed everything on the defense. Not until literally I bought (the) team have we had more changes. We’ve changed out the personnel dramatically, we’ve changed out the coaching staff totally, we’ve changed out the schemes involved. That first year we won one game. We’re evolving, but it’s probably a little more time needed than I had anticipated when we made these changes this year," Jones said.

Last season, the Cowboys allowed the most points per game in the NFL, averaging 30.1. They made several acquisitions, including defensive tackle Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline and edge rusher Rashan Gary and linebacker Dee Winters in separate trades.

Jones also drafted safety Caleb Downs in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft and signed safety Jalen Thompson to a three-year, $33 million contract, along with cornerback Cobie Durant to a one-year, $5.5 million deal. He replaced defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus with 34-year-old Christian Parker. Despite these changes, the Cowboys currently rank 27th in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing 27.2 points per game.

The Cowboys, with a record of 2-3, will face the Green Bay Packers (3-2) on Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. ET.
