The New Mexico truth commission has approved 14 subpoenas targeting various private, state, and federal institutions to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's activities in the state. This decision follows comments from former President Donald Trump urging Americans to move on from the Epstein files, which mention him multiple times. The subpoenas include requests for information from Epstein's estate, the Federal Aviation Administration, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Chase, and several New Mexico state agencies, among others.
The commission's actions come alongside a separate investigation by the New Mexico Department of Justice into Epstein's activities at his ranch. The truth commission was established by New Mexico's Democratic-controlled Legislature in February after the release of files containing allegations related to Epstein, including claims about buried bodies near his ranch. However, no evidence has been found to support these claims.
U.S. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer has criticized the Justice Department for its handling of Epstein investigations during Trump's presidency. The subpoenas may provoke responses from Trump administration officials who prefer to move past the Epstein issue.
