Anderson Cooper defended CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins after President Donald Trump criticized her during a recent press briefing. Trump, who is approaching his 80th birthday, made remarks about individuals involved in the January 6 riots, claiming their lives were being destroyed and referring to himself in that context. He accused CNN of being corrupt and directed his comments at Collins, stating she never smiles and implying she harbors hatred.
Cooper addressed the incident on his show, stating that Trump's verbal attack on Collins was unwarranted, as she was simply doing her job. He noted that such comments about physical appearance are not typically directed at men in similar positions. Cooper highlighted that Collins was not the only journalist present and questioned why she was singled out.
During the press briefing, Trump also dismissed Collins' questions regarding a controversial bill and criticized CNN's coverage. Collins, who previously worked for The Daily Caller, responded to Trump's comments about her past by affirming her identity as a journalist from Alabama. Trump continued to express his disdain for CNN, suggesting that the network's new ownership might not improve its reputation.
In a separate interview, Collins discussed the challenges female reporters face when covering Trump, indicating that personal reactions should not overshadow journalistic integrity.
