Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate in Maine, is facing new allegations regarding his treatment of women and a Nazi tattoo ahead of the upcoming primary election. The allegations surfaced in a report by the New York Times, which included claims from multiple women about intimidating and aggressive behavior from Platner.
One woman, Lyndsey Fifield, described incidents where Platner grabbed her and made concerning comments about rape, stating he believed it was about power. Platner's campaign has disputed many of the allegations but did not contest the comments about rape. The Republican National Committee condemned his behavior as 'absolutely disgusting.'
Fifield, who has ties to conservative organizations, also questioned Platner's claim of ignorance regarding the meaning of his Nazi tattoo, asserting he had previously taught her the German word for the symbol. Platner acknowledged past struggles with alcohol and described a 'dark period' in his life, but maintained that the worst rumors about him are untrue.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Platner responded to inquiries about additional allegations, suggesting there would be none. However, Senator John Fetterman expressed skepticism about Platner's chances in the upcoming Senate race, referencing the latest allegations and Platner's previous assurances. The Democratic primary is scheduled for June 9, 2026.
