The Kennedy Center is starting the process of removing references to former President Donald Trump after a federal judge ruled that his name was illegally added. Roma Daravi, the Kennedy Center’s vice president of public relations, stated that the organization is complying with the court’s order while considering legal options to preserve the revitalization and acknowledge Trump's leadership.
According to a memo from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel, all email signatures, letterhead, and other documents must reflect the name as 'The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' or 'Kennedy Center,' with changes required to be completed by June 12.
U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper's May 29 decision also blocked the administration from closing the venue for major renovations planned to start in July. Following the ruling, Trump indicated he would withdraw from the renovation plans and transfer control of the center to Congress. He later criticized Judge Cooper on social media, expressing frustration over what he described as unfair treatment in legal matters.
The removal of Trump's references is seen as a setback for his plans to remake various landmarks in Washington, D.C. Recently, his administration announced the completion of renovations on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and other projects.
