President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the renovations of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., are complete. Crews began refilling the pool on Thursday after several weeks of renovation work. Trump credited Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and the crew for restoring the pool, which was originally opened in 1922, and noted that the $6.9 million renovation was announced in April. The project included resurfacing the pool's basin in blue.
Additionally, Trump mentioned plans for a promenade that would connect the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River, enhancing access to the river for visitors at the National Mall. Burgum highlighted that the promenade would allow people to walk from the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River, improving the overall experience of the area. Trump also showed reporters a chart comparing the size of the reflecting pool to other national landmarks and stated that ten dumpsters of trash were removed from the pool during the renovations.
