US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with the Financial Times that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will have to accept any agreement reached between the US and Iran. Trump emphasized, "I call the shots. I call all the shots. He [Netanyahu] doesn't call the shots."
These comments followed Iran's ballistic missile attacks on Israel, which Trump described as a serious breach of the ceasefire agreement. The US and Israel conducted joint strikes on Iranian sites on February 28, leading to Iran's retaliatory actions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Despite a ceasefire established in April, a long-term peace deal has not been reached.
Trump also mentioned in a Fox News interview that he would advise Netanyahu against retaliatory actions towards Iran. He expressed that Iran's missile strikes would not affect US-Iran negotiations, stating, "It's not going to have any impact on the deal." He added that the outcome of the deal remains uncertain but indicated that a commando raid on Iran could be considered if the deal fails. Trump noted that maintaining a blockade on Iran has been effective.
His remarks about Netanyahu followed a leaked phone call in which Trump reportedly criticized the Israeli leader, saying, "You're f***ing crazy. You'd be in prison if it weren't for me."
