Gregory Bovino, a former Border Patrol Commander-at-Large, indicated on Monday that he is considering a presidential run in 2028. This statement follows a report from NewsNation that he has formed a committee to explore a potential campaign for the White House.
Bovino confirmed on social media, "NewsNation is reporting I’m exploring a run for President in 2028. Here’s the truth: My one and only priority is deporting the 106 million illegals who are here. That’s it." He retired from his position at Customs and Border Protection at the end of March, where he previously led immigration enforcement efforts in major cities including Minneapolis, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
He stated, "My commitment is simple, liberate America from this invasion and restore our quality of life. If running for President is what it takes to actually get it done, then all options are on the table." Bovino confirmed to NewsNation that he will move forward with a campaign if circumstances align favorably.
An exploratory committee has launched a website titled "Bovino 2028" to gauge public interest. The website features a photo of Bovino in a winter uniform issued by Border Patrol in the late 1990s, which has drawn criticism from some, including California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The website claims Bovino is uniquely positioned to address illegal immigration, a priority also emphasized by former President Donald Trump. It includes statements portraying Bovino as a leader capable of restoring order and national sovereignty.
As of now, it is uncertain whether Bovino will officially enter the presidential race in 2028. Other potential Republican candidates include Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but no candidates from either party have formally announced their campaigns yet, likely waiting until after the midterm elections.
