President Donald Trump stated that negotiations regarding a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons are nearing completion. Speaking to reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Trump claimed that a 'very good deal' is imminent, suggesting it could be finalized within two to three days. He emphasized that there are no sticking points in the negotiations.
Earlier, during a rally in South Carolina, Trump expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating that Iran is willing to agree to terms that would prevent nuclear weapon development. He indicated that a peace agreement could lead to a cessation of hostilities.
In a separate discussion, Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from military action against Iran, suggesting that a deal could render such strikes unnecessary. Trump noted that a naval blockade has been more effective than military action in applying pressure on Iran.
Iranian officials, however, have expressed skepticism about the negotiations, stating that no agreement has been reached on key issues. They maintain that discussions regarding nuclear matters are not currently taking place.
Additionally, the U.S. Central Command confirmed that a U.S. Army Apache helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, with the pilots rescued and in stable condition. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
