Pentagon Evacuated Due to Hazardous Materials Incident

The Pentagon was locked down and evacuated following a hazardous materials incident on June 11, 2026. Hazmat crews were dispatched to the site, and multiple floors and corridors were cleared. Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that an air quality issue was detected within the building, prompting a shelter-in-place order for the affected areas. Parnell stated, "The Pentagon has sophisticated systems to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. Those systems have detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance." The Arlington Fire and EMS Department's Hazardous Materials Team is currently assisting at the scene. Floors two through five have been locked down as part of the response.
