Jacob Reses, a chief adviser to Vice President JD Vance, is set to leave the Trump administration by the end of summer 2026. Reses informed Vance several months ago of his decision to depart after he and his wife announced they were expecting their first child. He has served as Vance's chief of staff since January 2025 and has been a close collaborator since Vance's Senate campaign in 2022.
Vice President Vance praised Reses, stating, "Jacob’s been by my side for my whole career in public life. I can’t imagine having been on this life-changing journey without him." Vance expressed his intention to maintain a close relationship with Reses after his departure.
Before joining Vance's team, Reses worked for Heritage Action and Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri. He has been recognized as a significant Republican operative, contributing to the ideological framework for the post-Trump Republican Party. Reses has received commendations from several Trump administration officials, including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Attorney General Todd Blanche, who noted his loyalty and effectiveness during his tenure.
Wiles remarked on Reses's contributions, calling him an important part of the leadership team, while Rubio highlighted his understanding of the administration's goals. Other officials echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Reses's intellect and leadership qualities.
