The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has issued an update regarding the investigation into the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, following an anonymous tip suggesting her remains may be located near the U.S.-Mexico border. The tip was received by a group in Mexico dedicated to locating missing persons. The sheriff's office stated they have not yet been contacted by Mexican authorities but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and they will pursue any credible information.
Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of the group Buscando Corazones Nogales, reported that an initial search in the area indicated by the tipster did not yield any findings, but efforts will continue. The area is known for previous discoveries of unmarked graves. Despite the lack of contact from Mexican authorities, the Sonora State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons has joined the search, supported by local security forces.
More than five months have passed since Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Currently, no suspects have been named or charged, and the investigation has few leads, with only a strand of hair, a glove, and doorbell footage of a masked figure available as evidence. Sheriff Chris Nanos has stated that the department is making progress in the investigation, particularly with DNA analysis. Savannah Guthrie, Nancy's daughter and co-host of the Today show, has been actively seeking information and has offered a $1 million reward for leads that could assist in her mother's recovery.
