Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Manuel Lozano, a United States citizen, for threatening to kill Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers. The incident occurred during a confrontation on May 19, when Lozano allegedly threatened to shoot federal agents with an AR-15-style rifle. Lozano was armed with a visible pistol when agents approached his residence in Yakima, Washington, after pursuing an illegal immigrant.
Lozano reportedly warned the agents, stating, "I’ve got something for you," before retrieving an AR-15-style rifle and taunting them. He was arrested on June 4, and during a search of his home, agents found two firearms, firearm parts, and mixed ammunition. Lozano has been charged with threats against a federal law enforcement officer.
DHS reported a significant increase in death threats and attacks against its officers in 2026, including an 8,000% increase in death threats and a 1,300% increase in assaults. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized that threats against his department's officers would lead to prosecution to the fullest extent of the law, a sentiment echoed by Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
