Federal regulators are investigating former Representative Devin Nunes regarding his campaign fund, which currently holds $14.5 million despite his absence from office since 2020. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) contacted Nunes' mother, Toni Dian Nunes, who serves as the treasurer for his campaign committee, in April to inquire about the substantial amount. Nunes' attorney stated that the funds are maintained for a potential future election, but this explanation did not fully address the FEC's questions.
Nunes left Congress on January 1, 2022, to become CEO of Trump Media, which operates Truth Social. Under his leadership, the company reportedly experienced a significant decline in share price and a net loss of $712 million last year. In February 2025, he was appointed by Trump as chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board.
Despite not running for office, Nunes' campaign account has continued to grow, with expenditures noted for legal services and payroll. The FEC flagged 16 disbursements made in the latter half of 2025, primarily to a D.C. law firm and a former aide. The FEC has requested clarification on whether these expenses are personal or related to potential future elections, but Nunes' campaign has not specified any upcoming elections.
