Mackenzie Shirilla Secures Prison Job While Serving Life Sentence for 2022 Fatal Crash

Mackenzie Shirilla, who is serving a life sentence for a crash that resulted in the deaths of her boyfriend and a friend in 2022, has obtained a job as a food service worker at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, according to Ohio prison officials. The details of her work assignment were not disclosed due to public-records exemptions. Shirilla, now 21, was convicted of intentionally crashing her vehicle into a building in Strongsville, Ohio, on July 31, 2022, killing Dominic Russo, 20, and Davion Flanagan, 19. Evidence presented during her trial indicated that she was driving at 90 mph in a 35 mph zone, and the vehicle's accelerator was fully engaged before the crash. Initially classified as accidental, the deaths were later reclassified as homicides after further investigation. Shirilla's case has gained renewed attention following the release of a Netflix docuseries titled 'The Crash.' Her legal team has filed for an appeal, arguing that her trial lawyers did not adequately investigate her medical condition, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which they claim may have contributed to her actions during the crash.
