Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico received approximately 50% of his campaign funds from out-of-state donors during the final stretch of the first quarter of 2026. In total, Talarico raised $8.5 million between February 12 and March 31, with about $4 million coming from outside Texas, according to campaign finance records. In contrast, his Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, received around 25% of his funds from out-of-state sources, raising approximately $850,000 during the same period, with $640,000 from Texas.
The fundraising dynamics highlight the increasing national interest in Texas' Senate race, with Talarico attracting significant financial support from Democratic donors across the country while emphasizing his Texas roots and opposition to outside interests. Notably, donors from New York and California contributed over $1.3 million to Talarico's campaign in the last six weeks of the quarter.
Talarico has publicly stated his family's long-standing ties to Texas and criticized the influence of out-of-state interests on local politics. His campaign claims to have raised funds from 246 Texas counties and over 540,000 small-dollar contributors, contrasting this with Paxton's reliance on corporate PAC money. Talarico's campaign has also received support from the Lone Star Rising PAC, a super PAC that has raised a significant portion of its funds from out-of-state donors, with only 12% of its contributions coming from Texas.
This fundraising trend may provide Democrats with a financial edge in what is anticipated to be a competitive Senate race, while Republicans could leverage Talarico's out-of-state funding to question his connection to Texas voters.
