Nara Organics has recalled its baby formula from stores nationwide and online following a multi-state outbreak of infant botulism. Three infants aged 2 to 5 months from California, Washington, and Pennsylvania were hospitalized after consuming Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula. They were treated with BabyBIG, a medication derived from the blood plasma of individuals immunized against botulism. The CDC reported no fatalities related to this outbreak.
Infant botulism occurs in babies under one year old who ingest Clostridium botulinum spores, which can produce neurotoxins in their immature intestinal tracts. Symptoms may include constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, and respiratory difficulties. Although rare, infant botulism can be fatal.
Nara Organics stated that the recall was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of infants. The CDC has advised parents to return or dispose of any Nara Organics products, take pictures of the lot code and use-by date, and seek medical attention if their baby shows symptoms. If no symptoms appear after a month, parents can discard the remaining formula.
As of June 13, no Nara Organics formula has tested positive for C. botulinum. This incident follows a previous recall by ByHeart in November 2025, which involved a botulism outbreak affecting 48 infants across 17 states. ByHeart's recall remains in effect as of June 10, 2026.
