A business jet crashed on a highway in Laredo, Texas, on Tuesday night, resulting in one death and multiple injuries, according to police. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Loop 20, as reported by Jose Baeza, an investigator with the Laredo Police Department. The aircraft was carrying six individuals when it crashed and subsequently caught fire. It is unclear whether the deceased was on the plane or on the ground. A vehicle was also struck by the aircraft during the incident.
The conditions of the other passengers aboard the plane are not known at this time. Initial reports indicated no serious injuries on the ground; however, five responding officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Following the crash, Loop 20 was closed and is expected to remain shut down into Wednesday morning.
The aircraft involved was identified as a Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet, which had departed from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m. NetJets confirmed that the crash involved one of its planes and stated that it is cooperating with authorities. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Video footage shared on social media depicted the plane on its side, having collided with a highway barrier, with significant damage to the tail section.
