An analysis of U.S. President Donald Trump's public comments from May 1 to June 10 indicates that he discussed his refurbishment projects in Washington, D.C. 34 times, compared to 20 mentions of the conflict with Iran. The analysis, conducted by The Telegraph, suggests that Trump speaks about his capital projects 70% more often than the Iran situation unless prompted by reporters. When including comments made in response to journalists, the totals rise to 86 for Iran and 43 for D.C. projects.
During this period, Trump made 1,097 posts on Truth Social, with approximately 10% related to his D.C. initiatives. He announced plans for a $600 million ballroom addition, renovations to the Rose Garden, and a $14 million paint job for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Trump has also proposed a gold arch modeled after France's Arc de Triomphe and a National Garden of American Heroes.
The analysis highlights a potential disconnect between Trump's focus on these projects and public sentiment, as a recent Ipsos poll indicated that more than half of voters oppose his planned Independence Arch and the ballroom addition. Political management professor Matthew Dallek noted that Trump's emphasis on these projects may suggest he is not addressing pressing issues like rising gas prices and inflation, which have recently impacted voters' views of his administration.
