The U.S. House is expected to send an affordable housing bill to President Donald Trump on Tuesday. The bill, known as the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, aims to lower costs for homebuyers and limit the number of single-family homes that institutional investors can purchase. It passed the Senate on Monday night with a vote of 85-5 after extensive discussions and revisions.
This bipartisan legislation seeks to reduce regulatory barriers to housing construction and is seen as a priority for both Democrats and Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. However, some conservative members of the House have expressed opposition, stating that they will not support the housing bill unless it includes the SAVE America Act, which mandates voter ID requirements.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna from Florida has indicated that she may oppose the housing bill if it is fast-tracked without including the voter ID provisions. Despite her stance, it is anticipated that the housing bill will still proceed without significant disruption from her opposition.
