Brad Lander, the former New York City Comptroller, won the Democratic primary for New York's 10th Congressional District, defeating incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman. With 42% of the vote counted, Lander received 62.8% while Goldman garnered 37%, according to the Associated Press. Lander's victory follows endorsements from Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who supported him as part of a broader slate of progressive candidates.
The primary highlighted divisions between left-wing and centrist Democrats, focusing on issues such as support for AIPAC and corporate regulations. Lander criticized Goldman for accepting donations from AIPAC and labeled Israel's military actions in Gaza as genocide, while Goldman maintained a pro-Israel stance. In economic discussions, Lander accused Goldman of being a 'corporate Democrat,' advocating for increased taxes on the wealthy and support for union organizing. Goldman countered by positioning himself as a candidate for working families, referencing his sponsorship of the ROBINHOOD Act to tax the ultrawealthy.
There was no Republican primary for this heavily Democratic seat, which Goldman previously won by a significant margin in 2024. Other candidates in the upcoming general election include Jennifer Moore from the Conservative Party and Nickie Kane from the No Kings Party.
