Democratic strategist James Carville has called for socialists within the Democratic Party to separate and form their own political movement, stating that their policies do not align with mainstream voters. In a recent episode of his podcast, Carville expressed concerns about the rise of socialism in New York, particularly regarding candidates Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander, who he believes have adopted positions inconsistent with the Democratic establishment.
Carville criticized the notion of a big tent coalition within the party, stating, "There’s just some s— that I can’t be in the same tent with," and suggested negotiating terms for a schism. He acknowledged progressive figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez but emphasized that more radical members, such as Avila Chevalier, should not be part of the Democratic Party.
He highlighted Avila Chevalier's controversial views, including her stance on Israel and her comments on interracial relationships, asserting that he cannot align with her or similar candidates. Carville previously mentioned in an interview that the House Democratic Caucus should not seat Avila Chevalier if she wins her election, arguing that her views contradict Democratic values of pluralism. He concluded by urging those who oppose the Democratic Party to start their own movement instead of using the party to promote their agenda.
