President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has nominated Lance Schroyer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a statement on Truth Social, Trump highlighted Schroyer's 29 years of law enforcement experience in Oklahoma, where he worked as a state trooper. Schroyer is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and currently holds the position of senior advisor to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
Trump described Schroyer as a leader with extensive operational experience, particularly in law enforcement partnerships with ICE under the 287(g) program. Schroyer previously served as a major at the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, overseeing the Emergency Services Unit. He is noted for his expertise in interagency collaboration, tactical planning, and policy implementation.
Both Trump and Mullin called on Congress to expedite Schroyer's confirmation. Mullin stated that Schroyer's background in managing large-scale operations will enhance ICE's efforts to remove undocumented individuals from Oklahoma. Since early 2017, ICE has been without a Senate-confirmed director, following the departure of Todd Lyons in April. David Venturella has been serving as the interim chief since June 1.
