The United States military carried out strikes against multiple targets in Iran on Saturday afternoon. This action followed a drone attack by Iran on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz earlier that morning. According to a statement from CENTCOM, the strikes targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities.
This announcement comes one day after the U.S. conducted strikes in response to previous drone attacks by Iran on four commercial ships in the same region, despite a signed ceasefire agreement. One ship was struck during those attacks, but there were no reported casualties, and the ship continued its route.
The CENTCOM statement noted that Iran was given an opportunity to adhere to the ceasefire but chose to launch a drone attack that hit a Panama-flagged tanker, M/T Kiku, which was carrying over two million barrels of crude oil.
President Donald Trump criticized Iran's actions as a violation of the ceasefire agreement, while Vice President JD Vance stated that violence would be met with violence. Additionally, Iran conducted an attack on Bahrain on the same morning. CENTCOM confirmed that commercial vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz continue and that U.S. forces remain vigilant.
