Federal authorities have dismantled an alleged firearms trafficking ring that prosecutors claim funneled dozens of guns from Georgia to Chicago street gangs. The operation was linked to violent crimes, including a juvenile murder. Five individuals were charged in a 23-count federal indictment unsealed in the Middle District of Georgia, following an investigation by a Homeland Security Task Force led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez face serious charges, including conspiracy related to firearms trafficking, machine guns, and drug trafficking. If convicted, they could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. Three additional defendants are also facing federal firearms conspiracy charges.
Court documents indicate that Edmond is allegedly associated with the Black Disciples gang and the Conservative Vice Lords gang. Prosecutors allege that he was instructed by co-conspirators to make straw purchases of firearms from Georgia gun stores, which were then transported to gang members in Chicago. Between 2020 and 2021, Edmond reportedly purchased at least 22 firearms over a 10-month period.
Some of these firearms were allegedly converted into fully automatic weapons and used in various violent crimes. Authorities recovered 20 firearms allegedly purchased by Edmond across three states between 2021 and 2026. Notably, a Glock pistol linked to a juvenile gang member was recovered by the Chicago Police Department in 2021, which forensic testing connected to three violent crimes, including a murder and a shooting involving a rival gang member. Investigators noted that Edmond purchased this firearm in Georgia just 36 days before it was allegedly used in the homicide.
