Tucker Carlson, a right-wing commentator, announced plans to establish a new political party after departing from the Republican Party last month. In an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review, Carlson expressed his intention to create a third party, emphasizing the need for a good-faith effort to address the country's issues.
Carlson's dissatisfaction with the GOP and President Donald Trump is largely due to his opposition to U.S. involvement in the war with Iran, which he attributes to Israel's influence. He previously stated that his departure from the Republican Party was influenced by the U.S.'s ongoing support for Israel amid conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the war in Gaza.
In his remarks, Carlson criticized the current political landscape, describing both major parties as part of a “one-party state” that prioritizes war and finance over the welfare of American citizens. He highlighted the declining quality of life for many Americans, stating, “If you make $60,000 a year, you’re degraded,” and called for the establishment of a third party to provide alternative options.
Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also recently distanced herself from the Republican Party, indicated she is in discussions to help create a party focused on American interests. While Carlson has no intention of running for president, he acknowledged the potential impact of a new party on the political landscape.
Carlson has reiterated his lack of interest in holding political office, stating, “I never have an interest in political office ever.” He also mentioned that he appreciates the idea of JD Vance as a presidential candidate, comparing him favorably to other political figures.
The future of Carlson's proposed party remains uncertain, as similar initiatives have previously failed to materialize, such as Elon Musk's plan to form the “America Party.”
