Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, commented on former Vice President Kamala Harris's outreach to socialist leaders, suggesting that she is seeking support from the left wing of the Democratic Party. During an appearance on Fox & Friends, York stated that Harris aims to position herself as a viable presidential candidate, particularly as socialist candidates gain traction in primaries across the country.
York noted that Harris has been in contact with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, which some interpret as an effort to strengthen her ties with the progressive faction of the party ahead of a potential 2028 presidential bid. Although Harris has not officially announced her candidacy, she has indicated openness to the idea in previous discussions.
York emphasized that it is not surprising for Harris to reach out to socialist leaders, given the current energy within the party. He also mentioned that Harris may be trying to distance herself from former President Joe Biden, who he described as not being sympathetic to the socialist cause, particularly regarding his support for Israel.
