A man was arrested outside Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in North Carolina after authorities discovered multiple weapons in his truck, including two flamethrowers. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a caller reported a man in camouflage clothing sitting in his vehicle in the church parking lot. Police arrested 44-year-old William S. Milliken III and charged him with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, impersonation of a law enforcement officer, and possession of a controlled substance, according to the High Point Police Department.
Milliken was wearing body armor at the time of his arrest and was taken into custody without incident. A search of his truck revealed a CO2-powered launcher resembling a handgun, two flamethrowers, two crossbows, over 500 rounds of ammunition, rolls of duct tape, three knives, and Oxycodone pills. Reports indicate that Milliken had a history of mental health issues and possessed GPS coordinates, body armor, radios with police scanners, handcuff keys, an enlarged map of North Carolina, and a notebook with addresses of churches, schools, and public buildings.
High Point Police Chief Curtis Cheeks III commended the quick response of officers, stating that their actions prevented a potentially dangerous situation. Mayor Cyril Jefferson also noted that no one was harmed during the incident, allowing hundreds of worshippers to return home safely.
