Porter McConnell, the daughter of former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has deactivated her social media account on X as speculation regarding her father's health increases. Porter McConnell, 48, previously served as the campaign director for Take on Wall Street, an advocacy group focused on financial regulation.
Mitch McConnell has not been seen in public for several weeks and was reported to have been found unconscious and received CPR after an incident at his Washington, D.C. home on June 14. His staff provided limited updates on his condition, stating he would not be voting that week. Senate Majority Leader John Thune mentioned on June 15 that he had not spoken with McConnell but believed he was still engaged with Senate matters.
McConnell has not participated in Senate votes since June 11, and the Senate is out of session until July 13. His wife, Elaine Chao, traveled to Beijing shortly after his hospitalization. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has stated that McConnell's office has not communicated with him about the senator's health. Recent changes to Kentucky law require a special election to fill a Senate vacancy if a sitting senator dies, altering previous rules that allowed the governor to appoint a replacement. Mitch McConnell has announced he will not seek reelection in 2026 and has faced multiple health issues in recent months, including episodes where he appeared to freeze while speaking and falls that resulted in injuries.
