Mario Lopez, actor and TV host, denied supporting President Donald Trump in a comment on Instagram that has since been deleted. According to a report by Buzzfeed, Lopez responded to a video titled "Exposing Latino MAGA Artists," which labeled him a "MAGA" supporter based on his past support for a UFC fight held at the White House and his social media follows of Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr.
The video also referenced a 2016 interview Lopez conducted with Trump during Trump's first presidential campaign. Lopez stated that he did not attend the UFC Freedom 250 fight, explaining that he was in Washington, D.C. filming a special for CBS at the time. He emphasized that his support for the UFC was in support of his friend, UFC CEO Dana White, and expressed that he is not politically inclined, stating, "I could care less about politics. I care about my family, my community, my culture, and my faith."
Tanika Ray, Lopez's former co-host on "Extra," commented on the original report, claiming she could confirm the allegations regarding Lopez's political stance. She expressed her confusion about his choices but acknowledged that he seems content with them. Lopez has generally maintained an apolitical stance in his public life, although he has openly shared his Christian faith.
