Waymo announced that it will begin offering robotaxi rides in four new cities: Las Vegas, Denver, San Diego, and Tampa, Florida. The company currently provides rides in over 10 cities and plans to first offer rides to employees in the coming weeks before expanding to the general public. Waymo also expects to expand its services to London later this year.
Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, raised $16 billion in February and holds a significant market share in the U.S. robotaxi sector, operating a fleet of approximately 4,000 vehicles equipped with advanced automated driving systems. The company has provided a total of 20 million autonomous rides and delivers over 500,000 autonomous electric vehicle trips weekly, aiming for 1 million paid weekly robotaxi rides by the end of the year.
While Waymo leads the market, competitors like Zoox, which partnered with Amazon, have served 300,000 riders as of March 2026 and are expanding their services in various cities. Tesla is also increasing its presence in Texas and Florida.
Despite its growth, Waymo has encountered challenges, including service suspensions due to vehicles driving into flooded areas and incidents where cars became stuck in traffic. As it expands to Denver, the company is also preparing for potential challenges posed by snowy conditions, although it has reported accumulating experience in such weather.
