A man reportedly sent to check on Senator Mitch McConnell's residence in Washington, D.C. has raised questions about the senator's health. Independent journalists Nicholas Ballasy and Desirée Townsend reported that the individual was seen leaving McConnell's home on Wednesday afternoon. He stated that he was tasked with ensuring the house was in order but did not work for McConnell's office or family. When asked about Elaine Chao, McConnell's wife, he said he had not seen her and lacked further information.
The man’s vehicle displayed a Kentucky license plate and a red congressional placard. McConnell's office did not respond to inquiries regarding the man's identity. The senator, 84, was hospitalized after being found unconscious at home on June 14, with reports suggesting he may have suffered a heart attack. An emergency call indicated that CPR was in progress due to cardiac arrest at the time of the dispatch.
McConnell's office has provided limited updates on his health, reiterating a statement from July 2 that he is recovering and working with his staff. Chao, who has been absent from public view, traveled to Beijing shortly after McConnell's hospitalization, meeting with Chinese officials. She later commented that her husband's health did not require her immediate return to the U.S. A spokesperson for Chao confirmed her return but did not provide details about McConnell's condition or the circumstances of his hospitalization.
