Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA) have initiated a joint fundraising effort through a new political action committee named Common Ground PA. The committee, which was registered with the Federal Election Commission this week, aims to collect contributions for both senators' campaigns and leadership PACs.
Mike DeVanney, a spokesman for McCormick's campaign, stated that the initiative is driven by donors who appreciate the collaboration between the two senators for the benefit of Pennsylvania.
This bipartisan fundraising effort is notable, as it is uncommon for such committees to cross party lines. The collaboration reflects a friendship between the two senators, particularly as Fetterman faces declining support among Democrats, with a recent Quinnipiac University poll indicating that 62% of Pennsylvania Democrats disapprove of his performance, while 73% of Republicans approve.
In a separate poll conducted by the Philadelphia Inquirer and Suffolk University, only 17% of Democrats viewed Fetterman favorably compared to 60% of Republicans. Fetterman has aligned with Republicans on various votes but has no plans to switch parties ahead of a potential reelection campaign in 2028.
McCormick, who is up for reelection in 2030, has developed a working relationship with Fetterman since taking office last year. The two senators previously collaborated to secure private sponsorships for Pennsylvania's booth at the Great American State Fair after Governor Josh Shapiro decided to withdraw state participation.
The Pennsylvania Republican Party expressed gratitude to Fetterman and McCormick for their efforts to represent the state at the national event, highlighting the significance of Pennsylvania's historical role in the founding of the United States.
