Tim Arvidson, who participated in the January 6, 2021, insurrection and ran as a Republican candidate for the Colorado Senate, was arrested on May 27, 2026, for allegedly shooting and killing a 43-year-old man named Robert Dougher in Colorado Springs. According to the arrest affidavit, Arvidson confronted his neighbor, accusing a group of people of drug dealing and gun possession, which led to an altercation resulting in the shooting.
Arvidson had previously posted on Facebook about his involvement in the January 6 riot, sharing photos and videos from the event. He described the experience as one filled with camaraderie among participants, expressing anger towards perceived government corruption and election integrity issues. He claimed that many attendees felt disenfranchised and that the election had been stolen.
Following the riot, Arvidson became an election official, serving as chair of the Castle Rock Election Commission, where he continued to promote election conspiracy theories. He introduced a letter containing debunked claims about election fraud at a commission hearing, stating it was for transparency. Arvidson emphasized the importance of election integrity and expressed concerns regarding voter roll information not being provided to the federal government.
