Three teenage girls were arrested in Jersey City last month after they allegedly threw acid on a group of six women. On June 15, six women were near Wilkinson Avenue when individuals approached and threw what is believed to be sulfuric acid at them, according to Jersey City Department of Public Safety spokesperson Kim Wallace Scalcione. The three suspects, aged 13, 14, and 15, were arrested on June 16 and 17. All six victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including skin burns and peeling. One victim, a 21-year-old woman, required treatment for second-degree burns to her face and scalp. The girls face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal weapons possession, risking injury, and conspiracy. Scalcione noted that the incident appears to have been targeted and may have stemmed from an earlier dispute among a large group. The suspects' identities have not been released. Officials stated that the women were in their car when the suspects drove by on a moped and threw the sulfuric acid at them. Sulfuric acid is a corrosive chemical that can cause severe burns and tissue damage upon contact with skin or mucous membranes.
