Two families have initiated a lawsuit against Unity Medical Center in Grafton, North Dakota, claiming that hospital staff mistakenly switched their baby boys at birth over 36 years ago. The plaintiffs, Kyle Bylin and Jeremy Morrison, were the only two infants born at the hospital on January 26, 1988. According to the lawsuit, the infants were sent home with the wrong biological parents and raised by each other's families without knowledge of the switch.
The switch was reportedly discovered only recently, after Morrison took a DNA test that revealed he was not biologically related to the parents who raised him. He stated that he always felt different from his family, noting that he stood out as a blonde-haired child among brown-haired relatives. Both families have since met their biological sons, but Bylin and Morrison have not yet met each other.
Unity Medical Center has denied the allegations and requested the court to dismiss the case. The hospital's attorneys argued that their staff exercised appropriate care and that the lawsuit may be barred by the statute of limitations due to the time elapsed since the alleged incident. The plaintiffs are seeking over $50,000 in damages and have requested a jury trial. The hospital has also expressed its commitment to understanding the situation and acknowledged the impact of the discovery on the families involved.
