Claude Lemieux, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, died by suicide at the age of 60, as confirmed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Authorities responded to an incident at the family's furniture store in Lake Park, Florida, early Thursday morning, where Lemieux was found in a rear warehouse by one of his sons.
Lemieux began his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens and was part of their Stanley Cup-winning team in 1986. He won four Stanley Cups overall, becoming the 10th player in NHL history to win back-to-back championships with different teams in 1995 and 1996, first with the New Jersey Devils and then with the Colorado Avalanche. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy after the 1995 Stanley Cup Final.
Throughout his career, Lemieux played in 1,215 NHL games for the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars, and San Jose Sharks, where he last played before retiring in 2009. After his playing career, he became a player agent, representing various players, including Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen.
