Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales, a Colombian national, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for voting fraudulently in U.S. elections over a span of more than 20 years. An investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies revealed that Jaramillo-Grajales used fraudulent documents to obtain a driver's license and a U.S. passport, allowing him to falsely claim U.S. citizenship and vote in multiple elections, including the 2020 general election.
According to the Department of Justice, Jaramillo-Grajales used the identity of a U.S. citizen to apply for a passport and register to vote. He first obtained a Florida driver's license in March 2003 using this fraudulent identity and subsequently renewed it several times, with the latest renewal in February 2024. He also renewed his passport in 2013 and 2023.
The investigation indicated that he manipulated U.S. immigration policies to assist his wife in becoming a U.S. citizen, subsequently using her citizenship to obtain his own citizenship through a series of marriages and divorces. Jaramillo-Grajales was convicted on four charges, including making false statements in a passport application and aggravated identity theft. Following his prison sentence, he will be deported from the United States.
